Description:
Surh Cellars Zinfandel Grist Vineyard Dry Creek Valley 2021
Surh Cellars Zinfandel Grist Vineyard Dry Creek Valley 2021 is a unique expression of Zinfandel, sourced from a low-yielding, mountain-top vineyard situated at an elevation of 1,000 feet. The grapes are meticulously handpicked and sorted, ensuring only the highest quality fruit is used in the winemaking process.
The grapes undergo a 4-day cold soak before fermentation, which lasts for 21 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the barrel, allowing for a smooth integration of flavors. The wine is racked twice before being bottled in March 2023, resulting in a well-balanced and complex Zinfandel.
Although hailing from the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma, this Zinfandel bears more resemblance to the high-elevation Zinfandels found in Napa Valley. The vineyard's red volcanic soil, similar to those found on hillsides in Napa, contributes to the wine's distinct character. The addition of a small amount of Petite Sirah lends to the wine's full-bodied and forceful nature.
On the nose and palate, the Surh Cellars Zinfandel Grist Vineyard Dry Creek Valley 2021 offers a ripe and full-bodied experience, with notes of cinnamon, sandalwood, cloves, cherry, kirsch, and vanilla bean. This is easily one of the most dense Zinfandels ever produced by Surh Cellars, displaying both complexity and intensity. This big and bold Zinfandel is ready to be enjoyed by adventurous wine lovers.

Surh Cellars
Since 1992, Don Surh has been making wine with varietals grown in Napa, Sonoma, Monterey and Mendocino counties in California. The 1999 vintage was the first commercial vintage in which 1,100 cases of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux blend called Mosaique, and a Napa Valley Zinfandel were produced. Today, product has increased to approximately 3,000 cases annually, across seven varietals.
