Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite
Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), or DBR (Lafite), is a large wine group headed by Baron Eric de Rothschild of the world-renowned Rothschild winemaking dynasty. The company owns approximately 1200 hectares (2965 acres) of vineyards spanning Bordeaux and beyond – namely Languedoc-Roussillon, Argentina and Chile. The company's origins lie in 1868 with the purchase of the First Growth-classified Bordeaux estate, Château Lafite Rothschild, by Baron James de Rothschild. From this initial acquisition, DBR (Lafite) grew its vineyard holdings, first, with the purchase of Château Duhart-Milon (Pauillac, Fourth Growth) in 1962. Baron Eric de Rothschild inherited the family business 12 years later and subsequently increased its portfolio of Bordeaux properties with the acquisition of Château Rieussec (Sauternes, First Growth) in 1984 and Château L'Evangile (Pomerol) in 1990, and further afield in Languedoc-Roussillon with Château D'Aussières in Corbières in 1999. Since 1988, DBR (Lafite) has also expanded overseas, acquiring of Viña Los Vascos in Chile, Bodegas Caro in Argentina and, most recently, establishing a vineyard in Shandong, China. In addition to this core portfolio, DBR (Lafite) produces "The Collection" comprising the Saga, Légende and Réserves brands. The wines in The Collection represent the appellations of Médoc and Pauillac, as well as Bordeaux Rouge and Blanc. The company also distributes the wines of Château Paradis Casseuil and Château Peyre-Lebade.
