Description:
A beautiful golden honey color with an intense resinous, dried apricot aroma. Sweet and velvety with intense fruitiness and honey, leather and tobacco tones.
Winery:
The traditional Chianti Classico property of Villa Calcinaia in Greve-in-Chianti has been owned by the Capponi family since 1524. Conte Sebastiano Capponi is the 37th generation and significantly, the 1st generation of the family to manage the 200 ha estate in person; his ancestors employing agents during the feudal mezzadria/share-cropping system that characterised Tuscany in particular (and Italy in general) until the 1970s/80s.
Wine Making:
Grapes are dried naturally after harvest for three months in the estate’s drying room. At about 34 brix, the grapes are pressed (whole cluster), and transferred to small 55L oak barrels called caratelli. Here the sweet must ferments on indigenous yeasts for approximately 7 years with only the occasional refilling before bottling.
