Description:
Chateau Loudenne Medoc Rouge 2018

Chateau Loudenne Medoc Rouge 2018 is produced on a privileged terroir in the Médoc. The vineyard's gravelly hills slope towards the Gironde estuary, enhancing sun exposure and grape ripening. Ocean breezes create a favorable microclimate, concentrating flavors through evaporation.

The wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats for an average of 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrels.

Aging takes place in 100% French oak barrels for 12 to 16 months, with 33% new oak of medium toast. The resulting wine displays a deep cherry red color with strawberry and blackcurrant notes. It offers a full-bodied palate with balanced, powerful tannins and a long finish with coffee notes.

The 2018 vintage benefited from a warm, dry summer following a rainy spring. Despite mildew challenges, careful vineyard management and favorable late-season conditions resulted in well-structured wines with optimal ripeness across all varietals.
Winery:
Chateau Loudenne
Built in the 17th century, Château Loudenne is one of the oldest Crus Bourgeois properties. Its history is inextricably linked with the British wine trade. Château Loudenne had many owners until 1875 when it was sold to two English brothers, Walter and Alfred Gilbey. The Gilbeys were influential wine and spirit merchants in London and producers of the gin of the same name. The wines of Loudenne prospered in the British trade and even survived two world wars. In March of 2000, the Château was bought by the Lafragette family who had established their reputation in the Cognac industry. In 2013, the estate was purchased by the Moutai group from the Guizhou province in southern China.
