Chateau du Tariquet
The birth of Armagnac's famous eau-de-vie seven centuries ago, makes it France's oldest brandy. In the 17th century the practice of maturing eau-de-vie in oak barrels become widespread, producing the Armagnac we know and love today. The Armagnac appellation is divided into three different terriors; three different regions of production each with their own distinctive flavor profiles: Bas-Armagnac, Tenareze and Haut-Armagnac. Chateau du Tariquet was built in 1683 with its vineyards bordering the town of Eauze, the capital of Bas-Armagnac, it is considered to be the most prestigious terroir on account of its 'tawny sands','poor, acidic' clay-silt soil with traces of iron oxides. Bas- Armagnacs are like no other distilled spirit in the world. The story of Chateau du Tariquet, with the destinies of the Artaud and Grassa families, has to be one of the most romantic in Gascony without a doubt. Today, Armin and Remy Grassa continue the long family traditions.
