Crafted from the finest Grains and Malts, Black Bottle is a curiously rich and delicate smoky blend. On the nose, blazing oak rips through dry woodsmoke, intertwined with notes of honey, sea salt, and charred toffee. The palate is greeted by a rush of crisp, dry woodsmoke, revealing hidden layers of sea salt and honey. The finish lingers with a sea salt and spice-blackened bonfire, accompanied by the persistent presence of wood smoke and charred toffee.
Black Bottle's secret recipe, inspired by Gordon Graham's original creation, features a high proportion of malts infused with the smoky essence of Islay. The blend incorporates a generous measure of peated malts from the revered isle, including the intensely smoky Moine from Bunnahabhain, balanced harmoniously with unpeated malts and ex-bourbon-cask-matured grains. The whisky is aged in a combination of medium and heavily charred casks, scorched to such an extent that the wood blackens and cracks like alligator skin, releasing natural sugars that caramelize to achieve the perfect balance of smoke and sweetness.
To further enhance the depth and character of Black Bottle, the blend incorporates malts matured in Virgin Oak casks, which have never contained any other spirit. These casks impart sweet notes of vanilla and coconut, contributing to the whisky's unparalleled complexity and allure.
