Since the gifted winemaker Dave Phinney, Orion-Swift Cellars, created The Prisoner wine back in 2003, this Zinfandel blend has developed a cult-like following and soon became one of the most recognized and innovative Napa Valley Red Wine blends. The Prisoner incorporates Zinfandel with the unlikely “mix” of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Charbono. Since then, the range has expanded which now includes Blindfold, a Chardonnay blend; Thorn, a Merlot blend; and Cuttings, a Cabernet blend. The philosophy of The Prisoner Wine Company is to source a diverse variety of grapes from premier vineyards throughout California. Working with only growers that share the same passion and dedication as they do, the resulting wines are interesting blends of distinct quality and character. The Prisoner, the flagship wine is a regular Wine Spectator Top 100, and a must-have wines for bold red lovers. The inspiration of the now iconic label is from the etching of Spanish artist Francisco de Goya’s, La Petite Prisonier.
